Introduction:
Antoni Abraham Street has an extremely rich, but also turbulent history. Originally, there were two streets: Abrahama Street (from the north) and Piotr Wysocki Street (from the south). Running in the back of Świętojańska Street and parallel to it, Abrahama Street had a chance to become the second equally important communication route of the City Centre, built up with magnificent apartment houses designed by the most outstanding architects from Gdynia.

However, history wanted otherwise. The degradation of the importance of Abrahama Street took place in the second half of the 1950s, when its middle section became the inner street of newly built blocks of flats, and the southern section was absorbed by the new main road – Władysława IV Street.

Nevertheless, the splendor of the old Abrahama Street has survived to this day. Next to the modest houses remembering the plans to make Gdynia a provincial town with low buildings, there are impressive buildings of the highest architectural class with extremely rich modernist interiors. At the very beginning of the street, you can admire the unusual Juliusz Hundsdorff corner apartment house designed by Marian Maśliński, only to see - on the next plots - the works of outstanding Gdynia architects: Stanisław Garliński (at no. 18, Włodzimierz Błażejewski apartment house), Maksymilian Zuski (at no. 29 Zygmunt Suski apartment house), Leon Mazalon (at no. 49, Sylwester Schwartz apartment house), Zbigniew Kupiec (at no. 37, Pantarea apartment house, a great example of the luxury trend), or designers who created for Gdynia occasionally, at the request of their clients: Edward Fuhrschmied (at no. 28, apartment house of Israel Reich, Wolf Birnbaum, with an extremely rich interior, full of modernist splendor), or Prof. Stanisław Marzyński (at no. 59, the house of W. Korzeniewski S.A. company). We would like you to take a walk along the quiet, somewhat forgotten, and often unobvious Abrahama Street, full of unusual apartment houses, not inferior to the most famous examples of the interwar architecture of Gdynia.
