15th Architecture Weekend in Gdynia 28-31.08.2025

15th Architecture Weekend in Gdynia 28-31.08.2025

  1. Archi-Bonus 25-27 August 2025

The city of Gdynia announces the 15th edition of the festival - Architecture Weekend in Gdynia, which will take place on 28-31 August 2025 (with an additional programme, the so-called Archi-Bonus, on 25-27 August 2025).

The event is organised by the City of Gdynia and the Gdynia Development Agency (Agencja Rozwoju Gdyni). Together with our partners, we have prepared a programme featuring several dozen events addressed to a wide audience, including enthusiasts and experts in contemporary architecture, photography, documentary cinema, animators, as well as specialists in urban planning and development.

The main theme of this year's festival is ‘Openness’, which will be reflected during four days of architectural lectures, discussions, themed walks – covering architecture, photography, interiors, as well as open meetings, including the Archi-Table (Archi-Stół) format, which was successfully organised for the first time last year.

The festival organisers and curators aim to promote openness and engagement among a wide range of local partners and key institutions involved in architectural dialogue.

Numerous architectural studios as well as research and innovation units will also take part in the event. The festival will become a platform for multi-threaded discussions and presentations of the latest research and analysis results, including projects carried out in recent years by the ‘Laboratory of Regions’ and the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning (NIAiU) Summer School, the Laboratory of Social Innovation (Labolatorium Innowacji Społecznych, LIS) and the ‘Exercising Modernity’ project.

The festival programme was developed by experienced curators – architects Dorota Sibińska and Dominika Zielińska, in collaboration with Filip Domaszczyński (XYStudio) and Professor Mariusz Twardowski (Cracow University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture).

The main strategic partner of the festival is the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning (NIAiU), organiser of, among others, the Archi-debate on 28 August 2025, as well as mentor of the programme of archi-lectures, exhibitions and festival discussions.

Selected topics that will develop the narrative of the theme:

  • Experience – architecture, public space, urban design that intensify and enrich positive human feelings – ‘life amongst buildings’.
  • Adaptation – creating urban and architectural solutions that actively respond to social and climate challenges.
  • Responsiveness – the ability to react quickly and anticipate threats, allowing us to avoid the effects of crises in contemporary cities and habitats.
  • Return to nature – both in the real and spiritual sense – openness to the rhythms of nature and its presence in the city and in our surroundings.
  • Reading – openness to cognitive processes, including conscious and selective reading of the press, the internet, books, as well as ‘reading’ the city, social interactions, culture and identity of a place.
  • Locality – learning “in situ” from the past, cities, neighbourhoods and homes in which we live; openness to the neighbourhood, optimising local resources and potential.

This year, for the first time, the festival will be accompanied by a professional podcast studio prepared in cooperation with the editorial staff of Architektura-murator. It will be a special space (on the first floor of the Gdynia InfoBox Modernism Centre) where special festival editions of the Architecture Podcast will be produced. We have also planned live broadcasts on social media which will summarise the most interesting aspects of the Weekend.
