The City of Gdynia and Gdynia Modernism Trail invite you to the next edition of Archi-Tour – next Saturday we will follow a charming route on the edge of urban development located next to the forest areas of Gdynia, the Działki Leśne and Witomino districts.
This is not our first visit to Działki Leśne. Many times in previous years, we have already had the opportunity to explore the architectural streets of the district with walks initiated and led by historians and architectural researchers Marcin and Weronika Szerle.
About the district:
Located west of Gdynia City Centre, Działki Leśne is an extremely fascinating place for enthusiasts of modernism. In 1932, the area was taken over by the Housing Estate Construction Society, which divided it into over 300 building plots, almost all of which were built up until the outbreak of World War II. The terrain conditions of the district, especially the hills and the nearby forest, inspired architects and urban planners to implement another "garden city" in Gdynia, where smaller and larger villas designed according to the latest trends in world architecture were to be created among the greenery. However, these specific conditions also caused many technical difficulties that investors and designers had to face.
The vastness of Działki Leśne and their architectural wealth make it impossible to get to know them during one walk, so this time we want to invite you to a trip along the southern edge of the district along Kwidzyńska and Witomińska Streets, where we will have the opportunity to see villas and modest apartment houses designed by the leading architects from Gdynia: Zbigniew Kupec and Tadeusz Kossak (2 Kwidzyńska Street), Maksymilian Zuske (16 Kwidzyńska Street), Feliks Godlewski (56 Pomorska Street), or Jerzy Müller (48 Pomorska Street).
