"Archi-Nuances" - meeting: lecture and architectural walk
Description:
The era of modernism brought many changes in architecture. The changes concerned almost all stages of construction: from the structure to the detail. Many of them were the result of the rapid development of technology, but the change in the approach to the functionality and appearance of buildings was also significant. Windows, doors, furniture, floors, staircases, kitchens, bathrooms – all this has been rethought in terms of ergonomics and comfort, so that life could become more hygienic, easier and pleasant. Those changes resulted in a modification of aesthetics, which manifested itself at every level, down to the smallest detail.
In the new construction, every element was important – each screw had its purpose, and its location and the material were well-thought-out so as not to stand out, but harmoniously blend into the space. We will have the opportunity to listen about various nuances of this type in the detail of the modernist architecture of Gdynia during a short presentation, after which we will go out in the field to look for unobvious places, details, nuances that, although often overlooked, testify to the exceptional craftsmanship of pre-war creators.
