The protection of the city centre has also been established at the local level, i.e. the level of the city.
Such an opportunity is provided by the local spatial development plans, which were adopted by the Gdynia City Council. Currently, the entire area of the modernist city centre – the Historical Monument – is covered by such plans. The development plans provide that in the area of the city centre, within the boundaries of the Historical Monument, the new development is to refer to the historical modernist architecture and the tradition of Gdynia. In addition, the development plans specify individual conservation protection of the most important buildings, which shields them from adverse transformations.
