Preservation of the values of the modernist city centre must take into account the fact that it is still a very intensively used, central part of Gdynia.
However, thanks to the innovative, modernist urban design, the first version of which was created in 1926, the city centre perfectly fulfils its contemporary role as a central district. The renewal activities carried out for over a dozen years consist in eliminating the effects of the changes of the 1990s, i.e., having the centre too crammed with cars; and in exchange restoring the greenery, which was removed at the end of the 20th century. An example of such activities is the liquidation of part of the parking spaces along 10 Lutego Street, and the restoration of greenery in these places, and the introduction of bicycle paths as an alternative, contemporary solution.
