Zygmunt Peszkowski Apartment House
Zygmunt Peszkowski Apartment House at 14 Kościuszki Square was built between 1927 and 1928 to a design by Włodzimierz Prochaska and Stanisław Odyniec-Dobrowolski.
The house features a distinctive corner section, which is one storey higher and emphasised by a rhythm of balconies. A simple form, a flat roof, large windows and contrasting colours replaced traditional ornamentation. It was here that a new approach to designing corners first appeared, which was later frequently replicated in the centre of Gdynia. Peszkowski Apartment House was one of the first tall, modernist buildings on Kościuszki Square and marked an important step in Gdynia’s transformation into a modern city.
