It is a luxurious corner house built in 1936, effectively combining cubic and streamlined forms: the rounded corner adheres to the cubic body, creating an asymmetrical shape. The band-shaped elevation beautifully attracts light, thanks to the bright color of the façade covered with limestone slabs, and the corner position.
These bright façades contrasted with the glazed strip of the ground floor gave the impression that the building detached from the ground and was flowing...
The Orłowski family, as the citizens of the United States, had to obtain a special consent of the Council of Ministers for the purchase of a plot of land for the construction of an apartment house. This building became a symbol of the growing ambitions of Gdynia: it exceeded the originally allowed level of five floors, and on its ground floor the owners opened a modern and luxurious "Bon Marche" department store – its opening became an event widely commented by Gdynia citizens. After the war, its place was taken by the International Book and Press Club, and today the company EMPiK still operates here.
