District Court

Designed by Zbigniew Karpiński, Tadeusz Sieczkowski and Roman Sołtyński, based on a design selected in an architectural competition, and won by those very young architects.

Built very fast in 1936. It is a modern building with a dynamic body consisting of a main cuboid with entrances and a high main hall, two symmetrical, arched wings and a straight wing from the side of Jana z Kolna Street. The avant-garde form of the building was already one of the symbols of Gdynia's modernity before the war, and it was the building that was first seen by visitors coming to Gdynia. The body of the District Court is also considered the most interesting structure among public buildings in Gdynia.

Inside the building the authentic design of the hall and staircases has been preserved, along with the elements of the original equipment, including the full decor and furniture of the courtrooms, wooden benches for clients with an exceptionally ergonomic shape (it is worth sitting down and trying it out), as well as the carpentry of the doors inside the building.
